Description: This image depicts Baruch son of Neriah reading the words of the prophet Jeremiah in the Temple on a fast day. To the top-left is Jeremiah’s vision of an almond branch and a boiling pot. At the bottom are sheep scattered and devoured by a wolf. At the bottom-right is a vat of wine symbolizing the drunkenness that God will bring on Judah. To the left a potter fashions a clay jar, and then Jeremiah smashes the clay jar, symbolic of the destruction of Jerusalem and Judah due to its unfaithfulness. At the bottom-left are the two baskets of figs shown to Jeremiah, one good and one bad. In the bottom-left corner King Jehoiakim of Judah burns the scroll written by the scribe Baruch, containing the word of the Lord that came to the prophet Jeremiah. At the top is the Lamb of God and to the right King Jeconiah and King Zedekiah, as taken into exile by King Nebuchadnezzar II. In the bottom-right corner Jerusalem burns in fulfillment of Jeremiah’s prophecy, as Jeremiah is lowered into a cistern.
