Description: Esau, famished by a recent hunting expedition, agrees to sell his birthright to Jacob for a bowl of stew and some bread. In the background, Jacob deceive his father into giving him Esau’s blessing (left), and then flees to Bethel where God blesses him during a dream in which angels are descending and ascending a ladder. The artist’s name, Matthias Scheits' (c. 1630-1700), as well as the engraver’s name, Melchior Kussell (1626 - c.a. 1683), have been placed at the bottom right corner.
