Description: The pictura of this emblem by the Italian jurist and writer Andrea Alciati (1492 – 1550 CE) features Anteros, the god of requited love, wearing a wreath of flowers as he weaves together three additional ones. The subscriptio, which is set in dialogical form with Anteros as an interlocutor, takes these wreaths to represent the four cardinal virtues. The one representing wisdom adorns the god’s head.
