Description: At the top of this historiated title-page border is the Lion of Judah holding a key, with the Latin inscription ECCE VICIT LEO DE TRIBU JUDA RADIX DAVID APERIRE LIBRUM ET SEPTEM SIGNACULA EIUS (Behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals) surrounding him, taken from Revelation 5:5. At image of the Lion of Judah is flanked by angels, while below it is the coat of arms of King Philip II of Spain (r. 1554-1598), with the collar for the Order of the Golden Fleece, a chivalric order, around the arms. An the frieze on either side of the coat of arms are the four symbols of the gospels, an angel or winged man (Matthew), lion (Mark), ox (Luke), and eagle (John). On either side of the title are the Apostles Peter (left) and Paul (right) with their respective attributes a key and a sword. At the bottom is an image surrounded by the Latin inscription VIDE OCCULIS TUIS, ET AURIBUS TUIS AUDI, ET PONE COR TUUM IN OMNIA QUAE EGO OSTENDAM TIBI (see with your eyes, and hear with your ears, and set your heart upon all that I shall show you), taken from Ezekiel 40:4. To either side of the image are King David, Aaron, and Moses.
