Description: This image depicts David sneaking into Saul’s camp, while everyone is asleep, and taking Saul’s spear and his water jar. In the top-left corner David holds a corner of Saul’s robe signaling that David has spared his life, while Saul gestures toward his army as a sign of David’s future role as king over Israel. In the top-right Saul closes in on David, only to hear that the Philistines are upon them. In the bottom-right corner Abigail brings David and his soldiers gifts in order to atone for her husband Nabal’s insults. At the top Saul summons Samuel through the medium at Endor. In the bottom-left corner Saul and his armor-bearer fall on their swords to prevent being captured or killed by the Philistines, while to the left valiant men from Jabesh-gilead recover the bodies of Saul and his sons from the walls of Beth-shan.
