Description: This image depicts Absalom hanging by his hair from the branches of an oak tree, Joab and his men come upon him and kill him. In the top-left Ahithophel comes before Absalom and offers to assassinate King David, while Jonathan and Ahimaaz are hidden in a woman’s well, and David crosses the Jordan River with his men. In the top-right corner a messenger brings David news of the victory over Absalom, while to the right Joab greets David after the battle. At the top Mephibosheth greets David as he returns to Jerusalem. In the bottom-right corner Joab slays Amasa with his sword, while Sheba's head is thrown from the tower of the city of Abel of Beth-maacah. In the bottom-left corner seven of Saul’s descendants are impaled at Gibeon to avenge Saul’s abuse of the Gibeonites. To the right David orders Joab to take a census of the Israelites, while David builds an altar to the Lord to sacrifice burnt-offerings.
