Description: Two panels run across the top of the left page featuring David beseeching Uriah the Hittite, the first husband of Bathsheba, to return home from battle and lay with his wife (2 Samuel 11), and David witnessing the plague from God kill his fellow Israelites in 2 Samuel 24. In the register below, Nathan, a court prophet, reprimands David for his adultery with Bathsheba and arrangement of her husband’s death by telling a parable (2 Samuel 11-12). The bottom register depicts the siege of Rabbath-Ammon, where David arranged for Uriah, the husband of Bathsheba, to be placed at the front lines of the battle and killed by enemy forces (2 Samuel 11-12). Across the top of the left page is a depiction of the humiliation of David’s servants by Hanun son of Nahash of the Ammonites after attempting to extend condolences on the death of his father (1 Chronicles 19). Portraits of King David with lyre in hand and receiving an unknown figure in court occupy the central registers. The bottom register is divided into two panels. On the left, Absalom, David’s rebellious third son, hangs by his hair from a tree in the Battle of Ephraim’s Wood (2 Samuel 18). On the right, the people of Abel Beth Maakah end Joab’s siege by throwing his soldiers the head of the traitor, Sheba, from a tower (2 Samuel 20).
