Description: The exterior of this historiated title-page border consists of small portraits: the left twelve pair the names and symbols of the tribes of Israel; the right twelve combine portraits of the apostles (including Matthias in place of Judas Iscariot) with their names and attributes (e.g., Peter’s keys). Within the outer set of portraits are portraits of the four evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, writing with their attributes (e.g., Matthew’s angel) at their side.
