Description: God blesses Jacob while he dreams, as angels descend and ascend a ladder connecting heaven and earth. After he wakes, Jacob anoints with oil the stone on which he slept (left) and meets Rachel upon arrival in Paddan Aram (background). The artist, Virgil Solis (1514-1562), has placed his monogram in the lower right corner of the woodcut. In addition, the monogram SHF has been placed over an engraver’s knife at the lower left center.
