Pitts Haggadot & Interfaith Passover Seder

Pitts has recently made its way into the news after having the opportunity to contribute to the Yiddishkayt Initiative’s Interfaith Seder. This interfaith Passover Seder will take place on March 28, 2021 with the goal of celebrating peace and freedom for all different faiths and religions. The Passover Interfaith Seder will be co-produced by Temple Adath Or and sponsors include Mark Gerson (author of “How Judaism’s Essential Book Reveals The Meaning Of Life) and the Lake Worth Interfaith Network.

In the late 2000s, Richard Goldstein, father of co-organizer Dr. Donna Goldstein, donated his personal collection of Passover Haggadot to Pitts Theology Library. That, combined with the Rabbi David Geffen Collection, makes up the library’s haggadot collection, one of the largest in America, now over 700 items dating from the 17th to the 21st centuries. Pitts librarians selected and digitized from this collection items that demonstrate the diversity (linguistic, cultural, theological, artistic, etc.) of this textual tradition for the upcoming Interfaith Seder, which will feature the items live.
